Area Photographer Brings Fresh Approach to Event Photos
Local event photographer, Kay Ritter of Light Magic, brings a unique spin to photos for corporate events and private parties. Unlike the standard strolling photographer who goes through the crowd taking candid photos that may or may not ever be seen by the guests, Light Magic's photos are printed at the party for guests to take home with them.
But that's only the beginning -- photos are all posed in front of a 'greenscreen' and, thanks to computer technology, a new background related to the party theme or location isinserted behind the subject. Next, a custom-designed graphic may be added as an overlay to further personalize the photo as a memento of each special event.
"After a long career in High Tech marketing communications and graphic design I was looking for a change -- something new and different," states Light Magic's founder, Kay Ritter. "I have always been intrigued by Old Time Photos and, after a little research, I discovered that there is a market niche I could serve and I have a lot to offer, thanks to my specific background, skills, and experience."
Light Magic will design a photo format to fit the theme and personality of each client -- old time or contemporary, conservative or whimsical. If the party has an Old Time theme, Light Magic has a complete wardrobe of costumes for adults and children. "The part that I really enjoy is the fact that no two events have been the same. Each event has it's unique
character, the guests always have a great time and appreciate the novelty of their special gift."
This approach is particularly well suited to events held in special venues such as museums or historical sites, where the guests can appear in a specific scene, while it might not be physically practical, for instance with a piece of art, a specific display — or even outer space.

New
Old Time Photo Business Aimed
at Untapped Corporate Event Market
Marlborough,
MA Light Magic's "Old Time Photo Parlor that comes to you,"
is founded on the premise that Old Time costume photos dont need
to be limited to theme parks, state fair midways and seaside resorts.
They can also add fun to corporate functions, trade shows, civic organizations,
private parties - any special event.
Old time
photos work well as a business gift that functions on a number of levels.
As an activity, the playful nature of dressing up is a terrific ice breaker
for guests and can serve as a stress reliever for those who have spent
a long day participating in business meetings. As a memento of the event,
the photo serves as a lasting reminder of a pleasant experience.
Drawing on
25 years of experience in corporate marketing communications management,
an extensive collection of 140 years of family photos, plus growing up
in the familys carnival business, the old time photography business
was a natural for owner, Kay Ritter.
After
too many years doing the same old thing, burnout had set in and I was
looking for a change. states Ritter. I needed to find a means
using of my existing skills and experience in a new way, so I did some
research and found an untapped market. History is a 'natural resource'
in the Boston area, but I found that no one was offering on-location Old
Time photography to the corporate events market.
Light Magic,
based in Marlborough, MA, boasts of an extensive, and growing, costume
collection covering the old west, Civil War, Victorian eras, the Roaring
20s jazz age of speakeasies and gangsters, up to the poodle skirts
of the rock-n-roll 50s.
Light Magic
will set up an Old Time Photo Parlor in only 10x20 feet of
floor space, complete with staff, equipment, costumes and background.
All the host needs to provide is an electrical connection and the guests,
who will each take home a professional quality photo portrait as a personal
memento of the event. Dressing up in costume for a personal photo,
adds fun and entertainment to any party, according to Ritter, and
breakaway costumes that fit over regular clothing make it quick and easy.
All services
are individually designed to suit the needs and budget of each event.
A simple event can be staged using a standard set of materials. For a
more complex event the company can provide any level of customization
- green-screen backgrounds, imprints, posters, mats, and frames to incorporate
existing graphics - to match the theme of any party.
